Hello!
This is my first time that I have taken up blogging on a somewhat political issue! I am a professional chef/ pastry chef, currently working for The Canadian Forces out of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax.
Halifax is located in the province of Nova Scotia, on the east coast of Canada; and is the capital of the province. Halifax is also the main econmonic driver for the Atlantic Region of Canada. Atlantic Canada includes Canada’s four most easterly provinces: Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
As a professional cook, I feel one of our responsibilites to to educate the general public about all issues involving food. Obviously, for myself it is to share my love of food. However, that does not stop solely at food preparation. I feel and from other readings, I realize that I am not alone; in that we are in a time where we must make critical changes to sustain our species. In this blog, I will discuss not only recipes, but also issues surrounding food security, seasonality, food production, urban farming, animal husbandry, global water issues, government policy, and food self-sufficiency.
I feel that we are at time in the history of our species that is of critical mass in how we live–particularly in reference to what we eat and how we grow/produce it. As we continue in the early 21st century, we see increased poverty; famine and due to economic factors more and more farms folding or being turned in production for fuel consumption. Join me on an adventure of discovery, facts, subjective opinions and good food!
